Pain is the path, ego the enemy

It will hurt, but it’ll be worth it.

You must get to the place where you know every corner of pain.

You must see us all as one.

Their struggles must be so real to you they’re almost yours.

You must eventually think so little of yourself, then everyone else, then rebound on both fronts.

Eventually, you’ll get there. Some at 21, some at 71, but no matter what, you’ll get there.

The sooner the better, though.

Through the lense of projection

Projection is an interesting one.

When some accuses someone of something, it says far more about them than they think, it’s one of my favorite lenses that will color every hour of every day, vibrantly.

Eminem actually has a phenomenal song that’s essentially entirely about this psychological phenomenon.

He even uses the technically correct terms used in the study/practice of psychology.

Including Weenie, lol.

Once you fully internalize this lesson, you can’t go an hour without seeing everyone’s insecurities, all their ticks, and suddenly (if you have empathy) you’ll start to feel bad for almost everyone you know.

..And start to lose respect for them..

People do not want freedom

They want control.

Control over how to spend every moment.

Freedom is actually a prison.

Because once you have it, you realize you don’t feel anything.

Once you have it, you’ll just want to feel something.

At a certain point, getting a million views a day and making $30-40k/mo got old, and I started buying hundreds of $2 bills, because spending them was always hilarious.

It was fun for me, the staff, my friends, everyone.

Trust me, freedom ain’t shit.

Unless you’ve been to jail (or juvy).

Oh, golly!

Hi there, partner, how are you? ..hope you’re doing swell!

I hope you’re enjoying your life today, because I am as well..

…the busi-ness is tough and rough, & it’ll surely bop you around..

But that’s the game we play everyday, you enjoy the merri-go-round..

*Don’t take yours too seriously, or you might not get very far..

Just be sure you don’t offend or hurt, wouldn’t want you with a scar..*

It’s simple, ya know, not fast, not slow, you wanna just take your time

Just be sure you don’t focus on your busi-ness, at the expense of time :)

Connection’s cool and so is sex, but please don’t miss the plot.

It’s the memory game we play for keeps, shh don’t tell the lot.

The Attention Game

We all play it online.

We also play IRL.

It’s a currency of sorts, and a weapon, too.

So.. what if IRL.. was actually online?

You should stop trying so hard.

Be late to the party.

Walk in insanely, aiming for zero fear of perception.

People will stare.

Enjoy it.

Stop worry about them.

They’re losers.

Just be nice.

Magnetism.

It comes to you.

Slow it down, do a 2 steps back 1 step forward, and go with your gut.

The attention game is easy if you just think about it a bit.

What would catch your attention?

People like to say agencies are people businesses.

I think all business are people business.

And attention is step one when dealing with people.

Try your best to enjoy it.

The less you care, the more fun you’ll have with it.

A few examples:

Tommy Cash

Drake

I’m trying my best

On lying

I’ll never forget my ex-cofounders encouraging me to lie to potential investors.

I complained over and over again how uncomfortable it made it made me, and they whined over and over again at me about how everyone does it and how benign it was.

It hurt me every time I almost did it — and the few I did.

Luckily, and ironically, I don’t think any of the people I lied to ended up investing, energy was off. Shoutout Pareto. And even if I had/did, the list of 19, is a list of brothers and sisters now that I lived through something… interesting with.

I’ll never forget the younger cofounder calling me one night in a panic because he had realized morals were not a large part of his life’s… thought process.

He exclaimed he had to just get off his chest that he realized that day he would do almost anything to make more money, and wanted to apologize in advanced in case he ever did anything...

On memory

The science of memory is an interesting one.

  1. Stories are roughly 22x more memorable than facts.
  2. Emotional intensity can help.
  3. You must feel safe to properly store a memory.

Oh, and people don’t forget when you help them immensely, or when you treat them in an humane way.

But if you can find in you to forgive them, wow.

Now that’s an idea.
